No era común a mediados de los años cincuenta que una mujer fuera protagonista de una serie. Menos común aún era que en 1937 fuera protagonista de un cómic. Tal vez la primera mujer heroína, creada en Gran Bretaña para Jumbo Comics.
Sheena, la reina de la jungla, una jungla mexicana en la realidad de las filmaciones. “Una de la selva”, al estilo Tarzán, con la modelo Irish McCalla como Sheena, Chris Drake como Bob Raybum y el infaltable chimpancé, en este caso, Chim, las tres atracciones de los 26 episodios de media hora de duración, filmados en la temporada 1955/1956.
Descubierta haciendo acrobacias, la modelo devenida heroína selvática declaraba, con alto grado de autocrítica: “Yo no podía actuar, pero podía columpiarme en los árboles”.
Producida por Nassour Studios Inc., emitida sindicada, hubo dos antes y un después con las actrices elegidas. La primera, la sueca Anita Ekberg, radicada circunstancialmente en EUA, fue el blanco original, pero no pudo ser. Debra Paget, con muchos westerns cinematográficos en su currículum, también probó el personaje. Y en 1984 la bella Tanya Roberts protagonizó una película dirigida por John Guillermin.

2. Premios Emmy para los programas Lassie, Disneyland, The Phil Silvers Show y Producers' Showcase.
3. Premios Emmy para los intérpretes Phil Silvers, Lloyd Nolan, Mary Martin, Lucille Ball, Art Carney y Nanette Fabray.
4. Premios BAFTA para Paul Rogers y Googie Withers.
5. Comienzo de las transmisiones de Independent Television, ITV, primera emisora privada en el Reino Unido. En poco tiempo se sumaron alrededor de cinco millones de televisores, a partir de ese día inaugural, el 22.5.55.
6. Entre los estrenos de no ficción más importantes en el Reino Unido Sunday Night at the London Palladium (variedades), Double Money (entretenimientos).
7. Inauguración del canal 4 de Belo Horizonte, TV Itacolomi.
8. Toast of the Town, en pantalla desde 1948, pasó a denominarse a partir del 18.9.55 The Ed Sullivan Show.
